Although the Erasmus+ Sports: Small Collaborative Partnerships project Inclusion & Gender Equality Through Softball (IGETS) involves three partners based in Malta, Croatia and the Netherlands, and most of the activities are focused to reduce gender imbalances in these three countries, there are efforts to raise awareness with regards to gender equality in sports throughout the softball community all across Europe.
Earlier this summer IGETS travelled with the Ghajnsielem Redcoats to Castions Delle Mura in Friuli, Italy, for the XXVI Memorial Federico Zuttion International Youth Baseball Tournament. Between July 31 and August 4, 2017 the banner of the IGETS project was attached to the fence of the SK Joudrs Praha softball fields during the joint softball training camp of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats with the host club. IGETS Project Coordinator, Joseph Scicluna, and Financial Controller, Steve Ellis, also held a meeting with Helena Novotna and Eva Rychtarikova, club official for SK Joudrs Praha. Ms Novotna is also Communications Director at Softball Europe.
During the meeting the important features of the Erasmus+ Sports: Small Collaborative Partnerships programme were discussed so that should SK Joudrs Praha be interested to participate in such projects they would have a better understanding of what is involved. The two club officials of the Redcoats also went over the objectives of IGETS and how the three European partners are going about trying to achieve those targets.
The Ghajnsielem Redcoats are trying to encourage and assist softball clubs throughout Europe to be in a better position to tap into such EU funding opportunities. Programmes such as Erasmus+ Sports: Small Collaborative Partnerships will not only help softball clubs implement projects which are beyond their budgets, but participation in major EU funded projects help raise the profile and standing of participating clubs.
